Basha, Shelter Sheet, Tarp, DPM, Custom Hex, Used

Description

UK Military sourced shelter sheet ‘basha’ in UK temperate DPM

Such shelter sheets are also referred to as hootchie, tarp, bivvy / bivi or basha, derived from ‘basha’ the Malay term for shelter

Highly unusual design, when we acquired the first one we thought it was a one off custom item, until the same source delivered another five

We believe these are a short run batch, possibly unit level make, minor differences between examples but overall design and dimensions are the same, rings on the ridge line are the same on all

Heavier fabric than the 95 issue shelters, closer to that used for 58 pattern ponchos

Irregular heaxagon shape, most likely a jungle warfare item for use with a hammock

Effectively a rectangle with a triangle sewn to each end

Total of 15 eyelet and ring suspension points, exact eyelet configuration may vary between examples, some have twin eyelets at the ridgeline ‘points’, others have a single

Cord in the ridge line, in some cases this is sewn in with a short length exposed, in others it’s a free running line, free running lines are white not green

Approximate measurements

4m along the ridge line at the longest point

2.2m wide at the widest point

Pack size, if carefully folded, 42 x 15 x 9cm

Example weights vary from 1.4 to 1.8kg, depending on fabric. We cannot offer a choice by weight, colour shade or cord type

Unbranded, ‘sterile’ item without labels or makers marks of any kind

One only

Condition is used but sound; two small points of damage, both repaired with tape. Colour shades may vary from that shown, minor shade variations between panels used in individual sheets

May have stores markings in ink

Photographs show basha set up, pegs, cord, and bungees shown are not included. Please see separate listings to order. Multiple views shown, single sheet supplied, NATO Colt type magazine for scale, this isn’t included
